What to do
The beaches run almost the whole length of the peninsula, from Maya Beach and Seine Bight to Placencia village, whose narrow concrete sidewalk is its main street. Boats go out to Laughing Bird Caye National Park and other cayes for snorkelling and diving. In spring, around the full moons from about March to June, whale sharks feed at Gladden Spit; trips go out with licensed operators.
Inland, the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary is about an hour away.
Getting there
Domestic flights from Belize City take about 45 minutes, sometimes stopping in Dangriga. By road it is about 3.5 hours via the Hummingbird Highway. See Belize City to Placencia.
